In line with this commitment, the YDC participated in the <strong>Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (FIFAfrica 2025)<\/strong> in Windhoek, Namibia, from 23 to 26 September, with six representatives from supported partner organisations engaged in the promotion of digital rights<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The week was dedicated to empowering young activists to bring forward their <strong>policy recommendations towards the promotion of digital rights<\/strong> and share the challenges they face in their respective contexts. FIFAfrica provided a platform to bring together voices from across the continent and beyond to discuss <strong>critical issues at the intersection of technology, human rights, and governance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advocacy Training<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The first day was dedicated to an Advocacy Training session moderated by Andrew Songa, EPD&rsquo;s Regional Advisor on African Union Engagement. The training gathered representatives from six organisations supported by the YDC for digital rights projects, members of the Digitalise Youth consortium, local CSOs, and Namibian YDC members. The session featured a representative from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/africtivistes.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Africtivistes\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#5a81bf\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Africtivistes<\/mark><\/a><\/strong> specialised in youth <a class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;Use of online platforms to advocate for causes and mobilise support.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  href=\"https:\/\/youthdemocracycohort.com\/glossary\/digital-activism\/\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>digital activism<\/a>, a media monitoring and information integrity expert from <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/codeforafrica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Code for Africa\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#5a81bf\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Code for Africa<\/mark><\/a><\/strong>, a representative of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youthdemocracycohort.com\/stories\/association-des-blogueurs-de-guinee-ablogui\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Association of Bloggers of Guinea (ABLOGUI)\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#5a81bf\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Association of Bloggers of Guinea (ABLOGUI)<\/mark><\/a><\/strong> and a member of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youthdemocracycohort.com\/stories\/asbad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Senegalese Association of Librarians, Documentalists and Archivists (ASBAD)\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#5a81bf\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Senegalese Association of Librarians, Documentalists and Archivists (ASBAD)<\/mark><\/a><\/strong>. She presented technology as a &lsquo;<strong>double-edged sword<\/strong>&rsquo; which has both created <strong>new opportunities to access information and to mobilise and empower youth<\/strong> while also being an environment conducive to the creation and <strong>spread of mis\/<a class=\"glossaryLink\"  aria-describedby=\"tt\"  data-cmtooltip=\"&lt;div class=glossaryItemBody&gt;False information deliberately created and shared to deceive people, often with malicious intent.&lt;\/div&gt;\"  href=\"https:\/\/youthdemocracycohort.com\/glossary\/disinformation\/\"  data-mobile-support=\"0\"  data-gt-translate-attributes='[{\"attribute\":\"data-cmtooltip\", \"format\":\"html\"}]' tabindex='0' role='link'>disinformation<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Baro Cond&eacute;<\/strong>, president of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youthdemocracycohort.com\/stories\/association-des-blogueurs-de-guinee-ablogui\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#5a81bf\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Association of Bloggers of Guinea (ABLOGUI)<\/mark><\/a><\/strong>, highlighted his organisation&rsquo;s significant contribution to strengthening digital rights: ABLOGUI successfully sued the Guinean government in the ECOWAS court for conducting intentional <strong>internet shutdowns<\/strong> during the 2020 elections, holding the state accountable for violating its regional, national and international obligations regarding the <strong>right to information<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Marie Gaye<\/strong> presented the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youthdemocracycohort.com\/stories\/asbad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#5a81bf\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Senegalese Association of Librarians, Documentalists and Archivists (ASBAD)<\/mark><\/a><\/strong> and their ambition to reposition <strong>libraries as levers for citizen participation<\/strong> and as privileged places for access to verified and verifiable information<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-light-blue-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-79f800672404eb5729de6c1effb610d9\" style=\"color:#ffffff\">&ldquo;<em>Digital rights are not new, but rather an extension into the digital space of our fundamental rights, the right to information, freedom of expression and the right to privacy.&rdquo; <\/em><br><br>&ndash; <strong>Baro Cond&eacute;, ABLOGUI<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The panel provided a platform for the speakers to present <strong>concrete recommendations to political actors<\/strong>, drawing on their experience and local realities.
